A single bench judge of Justice Hrishikesh Roy pronounced the judgement on Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case at 11:00 am today. Approving CBI to investigate into the matter, the SC remarked, “CBI will be competent to probe not only Patna FIR but any other FIR related to Rajput’s death case”. SC further ordered Mumbai Police to hand over all the evidences collected related to the matter to the CBI.
On 25th July, 2020, Sushant Singh Rajput’s father KK Singh had lodged a FIR at the Rajiv Nagar Police Station, Patna, against the deceased’s girlfriend and actor Rhea Chakraborty and five other people accusing her of abetment of Sushant’s suicide. His father also alleged that Rhea Chakraborty is responsible for mentally harassing his son and that she had illegally transferred a hefty amount from Sushant’s bank account to hers.
Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had also registered a case against Rhea Chakraborty and her family members. However, Rhea had denied all the charges against her and also maintained co operation with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding the investigation into the case.
She had filed a petition before the Hon’ble Supreme Court, stating that the Bihar Police has no jurisdiction into the matter and that they are wrongfully using the case for their political gains, in the light of elections. She also pleaded before the court to transfer the case to the Mumbai Police due to heightened media sensitization.
Supreme Court in its judgement today, ensured that “the FIR registered in Patna was lawful” and also cleared the confusion about CBI being the competent authority to investigate into the mysterious death of the actor on 14th June, 2020 at his Bandra residence.
