A review petition has been filed before the Hon’ble Supreme Court by six opposition ruling states (West Bengal, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Jharkhand) in their individual capacity to postpone NEET and JEE Mains Exams 2020 invoking ‘right to life’ of the students. This petition was filed before the SC as a response to its verdict quashing the plea to postpone NEET and JEE Mains. The Review Petition is to urge the SC to reconsider its order.
The NEET and JEE Mains 2020 were scheduled to be held in the month of September in the midst of the alarming rising cases of Corona Virus in the country. The Review Plea is therefore a last effort for the students. The plea states, “impugned order deserves to be recalled and the examinations deserve to be postponed.”
Advocate Sunil Fernandes stated in the Plea, “If the order of August 17, 2020 is not reviewed, then grave and irreparable harm and injury will befall the student community of our country and not only will health, welfare and safety of students appearing for NEET/ JEE stand imperilled but also the public health at large would be in severe jeopardy in these Covid 19 pandemic times”
The Supreme Court on August 17 had dismissed the Plea demanding postponement of NEET and JEE Main Exams 2020 saying “Life should move on in Covid 19 times…” The SC also advised the examinations to be held with required supervision, health and safety measures in September as per the schedule
